Joining JHF as an Associate

We are looking for Christians with a clear sense of call to serve in China and necessary personal and professional qualifications. Those thinking longer term are strongly encouraged as a first step to devote two or more years to full-time language study in China.

• Applicants should be aged between 20 and 65 years and in overall good health
• Applicants must be supportive of the JHF purpose and vision
• Applicants provide the names of three people to whom JHF can apply for references
• For married couples, both husband and wife are expected to join JHF and to share a sense of call together for China

Application deadlines:

• 31 March for Summer intake (August orientation)
• 30 September for Winter intake (February orientation)

Orientation:

JHF requires all new candidates to attend the five-day JHF Orientation, usually in Hong Kong, prior to serving in China. Orientation is held twice a year, in February and August. This enables candidates to get to know the people and work of JHF, and also provides important China orientation. We cannot over-emphasise the need to be as fully prepared as possible for living in China, and orientation will help provide this.

Placement in China:

Whether an applicant responds to a specific opportunity or makes a general application, JHF will process the associate application prior to confirming any placement in China.  New associates join one of the JHF cluster groups in China.  They are presently located in: Beijing, Changsha, Qingdao, Qinghai, Shanghai, Taiyuan, Tianjin, Urumqi, Yunnan, Xiamen, Xi’an. 

Medical insurance:

All active associates are expected to arrange for full health insurance coverage.

Annual Conference:

JHF holds an annual conference during the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) for all associates.

Costs:

1. An application fee of HK$650 (approx. US$85) is required to start the formal application process.

2. A basic annual fee for associates is levied, to help towards meeting the costs of JHF services:

• Annual fee for singles: HK$4,680 (approx. US$600)
• Annual fee for couples: HK$6,550 (approx. US$850)

3. The JHF Orientation for new associates: approx. HK$3,500 (approx. US$450).

Other costs such as annual conference, medical insurance, pensions, travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses in China are the responsibility of the associate.
